AGGRESSIVE
DRIVING ENFORCEMENT VEHICLES
To combat agressive drivers, the need for an unmarked
and non-typical observation vehicle has become almost a
necessity on our roadways. N.C.P.D. Traffic Unit employs
unmarked non-descript vehicles in the effort to address one
of our largest problem areas. Our goal is simple, deploy a
civilian style vehicle into normal traffic situations and
weed out those drivers who are driving in such a manner
that tends to be the cause of major collisions on our
roadways.
To accomplish this goal, we have modified an in-car
video recording system, radar, emergency blue lights, and
siren which is normally permanantly installed in a police
cruiser to be easily installed into any vehicle within a
half hour. That vehicle then becomes a mobile observation
vehicle which will then be driven in daily traffic
situations with the purpose of identifying and recording
drivers who are driving in an agressive manner.
The officer will then relay the description of the
offendor vehicle to one of the other marked traffic Units
who will then initiate a traffic stop and cite the driver
for the violations observed. In most cases, the violator
was not aware that thier actions were being monitored or
even being
recorded.
