HARLEY
DAVIDSON POLICE ROAD KING FLHP
N.C.P.D. has a fleet of six 2007 Harley Davidson
FLHPI six speed Twin Cam 103 cubic inch Road King
motorcycles each of which are assigned to an individual
Traffic Unit officer as a take home vehicle. The police
motorcycle is capable of moving through traffic much easier
than the vehicles. The motorcycle is also capable of
accelerating quickly, which makes it the ideal tool for
apprehending speeding violators. The North Charleston
Police Department currently leases each motorcycle from
Savanah Harley Davidson on a yearly replacement cycle. This
process allows the Motor Squad to maintain a low level of
cost for ongoing long term maintenance. Having the
motorcycles replaced yearly also ensures that the officers
are afforded the latest updates to their assigned
motorcycle which in turn keeps them safer.
HISTORY OF THE N.C.P.D. MOTORCYCLE
Looking back, the North Charleston Police Department
has utilized police motorcycles uninterrupted since around
1986. The Motorcycle pictured here was a kawasaki K1000 and
was removed from service late 1999 along with two
department owned Harley Davidson Road King motorcycles and
replaced with six Harley Davidson Road Kings which the
department currently operates.
