TRAFFIC UNIT SHOULDER PATCH

page24_1
The North Charleston Police Department Traffic Unit patch was designed by Traffic Unit officers Brinson and Morgan in 2004. The Traffic Unit patch was developed along with a number of other North Charleston Police specialized units designed by other officers within the department to permit those units to wear their respective patches of their unit. The Traffic Unit patch is worn on both sleeves of Traffic Unit BDU's. BDU's are worn for traffic related callouts, and other special events.

THE DESIGN
The Traffic Unit patch was designed to be easily recognized as a North Charleston Police Department Patch and at the same time include a meaningful logo which represents the Traffic Unit as a whole. The Shoulder patch was designed with the winged wheel logo which is generally accepted by many police departments as a police Traffic Unit designation.

The wheel symbolizes mobility, The wings symbolizes speed or expediency, and the banner below the winged wheel, stating "Saving Lives" is a portion of our Traffic Unit's motto of "Saving Lives Through Education & Enforcement".
